Desktop capture instrument — Windows / macOS
CAPSTAN
A screen recorder built for people who bill by the hour, not people who record birthday parties. GPU-accelerated capture, frame-accurate export, and a license priced like a real instrument — sold outright, never given away with strings attached.
PAID ONLY · NO TRIAL · FROM $100.00 / MO PER SEAT
Panel 00 — On pricing
Every screen recorder that doesn't charge you upfront pays for itself somehow — a watermark you can't remove without paying anyway, a resolution cap, a ten-minute recording limit, or your usage data sold to whoever's asking.
We picked a simpler arrangement. You pay for the software, in full, and nothing about the product changes based on whether you upgrade. Seats start at $100 a month. Every plan is paid from day one, there is no seven-day trial, and no quiet "contact us" pricing that only appears after you've already switched your workflow over.
The price is the price, and it starts at $100.
- NO ADS
The $100 a month is the entire business model. Nobody's browsing history or clipboard is the actual product here.
- SAME BUILD
The $100 seat runs the same binary as the custom Enterprise contract. Paying more buys governance, not a better recorder.
- REAL SUPPORT
A support desk paid for by seat prices answers tickets. A support desk paid for by nothing answers with a forum thread.
Panel 01–04 — The instrument
What $100 a month actually runs.
No tier of CAPSTAN disables a feature to push you toward the next one. Paying more buys seats, governance, and support — not resolution.
01 — Capture engine
GPU-accelerated capture
Up to 4K at 120fps, with a lossless mode for footage that has to survive a re-encode later. Nothing hiding in the corners of the frame.
Included from $100/mo — every tier, no upsell.
02 — Timeline
Independent tracks
Screen, webcam, and audio sit on their own tracks. Trim, mute, and rearrange without forcing a re-render of footage you didn't touch.
Included from $100/mo — no watermark, no cap.
03 — Team library
Shared, governed storage
Role-based access, retention windows, and an audit trail — for teams that have to answer for where a recording ended up.
Shared library from $140/seat/mo — Studio and up.
04 — CLI & API
Scriptable capture
Start and stop recordings from a script or a CI pipeline. Pull finished assets over a REST API instead of someone's desktop folder.
Included from $100/mo — same access at every seat price.
Panel 05 — Licensing
Four ways to pay for the same product.
Every tier runs the identical build — same capture engine, same export quality. Higher tiers add seats, governance, and support response time. None of them add a feature the tier below was missing.
- 1 seat
- Local capture & export, 4K/120fps
- Standard support, 48h response
- Everything in Solo
- Up to 5 seats, shared export folder
- 90-day retention
- Email support, 24h response
- Everything in Studio
- Unlimited seats, shared library, roles & permissions
- Configurable retention policy
- Priority support, 12h response
- Everything in Team
- SSO / SCIM, on-prem storage target
- Audit log export
- Dedicated account manager
Every seat, at any seat count, is paid. Minimum commitment is one seat, one month, at $100.
Panel 06 — Add-ons
Extend any plan. Everything on this list is paid too.
Add-ons stack on top of Solo, Studio, or Team at the seat price you're already paying.
Add a seat to any plan at the same $100 floor price, no bundling discount.
Push team library retention from 90 days to 12 months.
Point the team library at storage you control instead of ours.
Bring standard 48h response down to 12h on Solo or Studio.
A structured rollout call and configuration review for teams over 10 seats.
Pull the audit log programmatically instead of requesting exports by hand.

Panel 08 — Rollout
What happens after you request access.
Step A
Request
You submit the form with your plan, seat count, and company.
Step B
Confirmation
Sales confirms billing and seat count, usually the same business day.
Step C
License issued
You receive a signed installer and a per-seat license key.
Step D
Team onboarding
Team and Enterprise seats get a scheduled rollout call.
Every step above assumes a paid seat. There's no rollout path that skips the $100/mo minimum — sales won't issue a license without it.
Panel 09 — Security & governance
Governance, not an afterthought.
Recordings are stored locally by default. Team library storage is opt-in and configured per workspace.
Role-based access on Team and above; SSO and SCIM provisioning on Enterprise.
Every export, share, and deletion is written to an audit log your admins can pull on demand.
No usage data is sold or shared with third parties. It doesn't need to be — you already paid for the seat.
Audit logging and SSO aren't a security tax on top of the seat price — they're what the $180/seat/mo Team tier and custom Enterprise pricing already include.
Panel 10 — Questions
Before you ask sales.
Is there a trial before you pay?
No. Every seat is a paid seat from the first day it's issued.
Is there a discount for students, open source, or nonprofits?
No. Pricing does not change based on who's buying.
What does clicking "Download for Desktop" actually do?
It opens a request form, not an installer. Downloading requires an active license, so our team issues your license and download link directly — usually within one business day.
What's the cheapest possible way to run CAPSTAN?
One Solo seat, billed annually, at $100 a month. There's no lower published price than that.
Do prices ever go down?
Not for plans already granted, and rarely for new ones. Budget for $100 a seat as a floor, not a promotion.
Are add-ons included in the seat price?
No. Add-ons like extended retention, on-prem storage, or priority support bill separately, on top of whatever plan you're already paying for.
Can I move between plans later?
Yes — sales can move you up or down at your next billing cycle. Moving down doesn't refund the difference for the current term.
